Our goal is to provide you the best Micro Brewed Meads possible.

What started as a hobby became a profession.

Ian commenced brewing in Tasmania during the early 1990’s as part a Medieval Reenactment club, The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  In 1994 he won a mead making competition within the club, and this cemented his interest.

‘The Closet of Sir Kenelm Digby Opened’ became a source of recipes he returned to regularly.  Finding the blackcurrant melomel recipe in this ancient tome was a turning point as he was able to utilise the blackcurrant being grown in the home garden.

This distinctive flavour became his signature brew with a ‘vintage’ being made almost every year since 1993.

Over subsequent years recipes were tested, ideas exchanged, ingredients and techniques explored and tested all leading to the refined flavours he now creates.

A reputation for quality led to many people asking the same question, ‘Can I buy some?’.

After over 20 years of refining the flavours and repeatedly being hounded for some way to purchase, in the early 2020’s Ian decided that it was time to get a licence, and see how the mead would stand up in a national competition.

The Traditional Mead, Mr Masillon’s and Blackcurrant Melomel recipes were submitted to the Red Hill Mead show, achieving Bronze, Bronze and Silver medals respectively.

It turns out they stand up pretty well and he is proud to now offer them for you to enjoy.
